Val di Cornia Parks
The Cornia Valley, the last southern stretch of the Costa degli Etruschi, is a finger
of land that protrudes into the sea, opposite the island of Elba. Inhabited in very
ancient times by the Etruscans, today this area displays an extraordinary wealth
of environmental and cultural riches, all located within the Val di Cornia Parks
System. Italy' flagship at the Council of Europe for its Landscape Award, the Parks
System boasts an extremely wide range of features, helping visitors to discover
a fascinating area that has a story to tell, and is very good at telling it.
A network of visitor itineraries, spread across five different municipalities, unites
the sea and the hills of the hinterland, combining history and nature, fine food
and quality goods, for a unique experience far removed from the usual circuits of
mass tourism.
The System includes:
- The Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia (Piombino)
- The Archaeological Museum of the Territory of Populonia (Piombino)
- The Piombino Castle and Town Museum (Piombino)
- The Archaeological Mines Park of San Silvestro (Campiglia M.ma)
- The Rocca of Campiglia Museum (Campiglia M.ma)
- The Coastal Park of Sterpaia (Piombino)
- The Coastal Park of Rimigliano (San Vincenzo)
- Nature Reserve of Montioni (Suvereto)
- Nature Reserve of Poggio Neri (Sassetta)
The Parks and Museums are open all year round at pre-arranged times. For further

Tips
It is recommended that visitors to the parks wear outdoor clothing with hiking shoes,
a hat (during the hot summer months), and a jacket for visits to the underground
mines, where temperatures are in the region of 13-14°C. Mosquito repellent is advised
for visits to the Parco della Sterpaia and Parco di Rimigliano woodlands.
